Error Messages in FortiClient

In the following guide, you will find the meaning of common FortiClient VPN client errors that frequently occur when connecting to a VPN.

1. Credential or SSLVPN configuration is wrong. (-7200)

FortiClient Error -7200

This error occurs when entering an incorrect password and/or token. To resolve this issue, simply ensure that you are entering the correct password and/or token.

If the organization uses authentication through Active Directory (AD), check with the administrator or IT support to ensure that your user account is not locked or that the password has not expired.

2. Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable. (-8)

FortiClient Error -8

Similar to the previous error, this occurs when entering the password and/or token incorrectly. To resolve it, it is necessary to verify that you are entering the correct password and/or token.

If the organization uses authentication through Active Directory (AD), check with the administrator or IT support to ensure that your user account is not locked or that the password has not expired.

3. Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable

FortiClient Connection Error

This error occurs when the device is not connected to the Internet. Check that the computer is connected to the Internet. If it is via WIFI, ensure the WIFI connection is active. If it is a wired connection, check that the cable running from the modem to the computer is properly connected at both ends and that it is not in poor condition.

4. Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable. (-14) (-20199)

These errors occur when there is an issue between the Operating System and the VPN. To resolve this, simply restart the computer and try again.
